As a kid I never danced and was always scared of the dance floor. Eventually at the age of 22, the inspiration to dance came from a friend calling me an embarrassment at a party because I wasn’t very comfortable with dancing. I was challenged by this rather than de-motivated and have never looked back since.Once my confidence built up, it was important to me to help other people who were facing the same challenges as I did and so I started teaching. My experiences help me understand the psyche of a new dancer. We try to make it easy, fun and instinctive rather than clinical and rigid.
A few of the projects I have worked on include IIFA Dubai, Masala Awards, Great Women awards, employee engagement programs for Mashreq Bank, RAK Bank, Samsumg, Petrochem, International competitions like Jhalak Dikhla Ja, UAE Grande Finale 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
I also have a double major in Finance and Marketing & am currently pursuing an MBA. I’m very driven and enjoy the work I do. I aspire to make a difference in people’s lives and this is probably where I get my serial entrepreneur mentality. I’m always planning the next big project.
DANS was inaugurated three years ago on the 27th of Feb 2013 and we specialize in helping people develop the confidence to dance, be it at a family wedding, dance demonstration or international competitions. We started in 2013 with only 2 DANStructors and 1 center. Today we are a team of 9 DANStructors + 2 Staff members handling operations, 30 Performers, 200+ students and 4 centers across Dubai. Each and every DANStructor / Management staff was once a student. We have all been through the journey of being a student and then progressing to the next level. This gives us a common base to connect to. It also enables us to understand a new student in class or a new member in the dance group as we were there at a point in time. This bond keeps getting stronger with time and enables us to build a more connected group and an efficient organization.
What DANS offers?
DANS conducts sessions for multiple dance forms including salsa, contemporary, hip hop, bollywood, jazz, rock & roll & jive.
Age is not a limitation to dancing and with this in view DANS teaches with different objectives per age group. Each letter of DANS represents a student group.
D represents ages 4 to 7 who are referred to as Dreamers. The objective is to teach this age group the basics of hand and leg coordination, rhythm recognition, direction and memory.
A represents ages 8 to 12 who are called Achievers. In addition to the above, Achievers also learn formations, partner work, expressions, style and energy.
Naturals (N – ages 13 to 19) and Stars (S – ages 20 and above) learn speed, footwork, and different styles as well as the above skills.
How do you think DANS can impact Corporates?
I see a lot of correlations between dancing and life. The journey of a new dancer is very much like the journey of a child. The initial fear and bravery of movement, the slow progress, the many falls and the number of times you pick yourself up and keep moving, keep dancing – All this plays out every day in our studios with each new student.
We also see the pleasure with each accomplished routine; the pride and confidence in learning the next; the lack of self-consciousness and losing oneself in the moment. After dancing for so many years, my team and I decided to prepare a workshop for corporate’s where we could use the above learning to help team members enhance their bonds, reach outside their comfort zone and spread positivity. We would like to advise company heads to push their staff outside their comfort zone, but never alone and in a team. When team members undergo the same amount of stress and have a common objective, they bond at a sub conscious level. This sub conscious bond only gets stronger when the objective is met and celebrations come in place.
Hence, we want to use the power of bonding to increase productivity, confidence and positivity.
We love to see people come out of their shells and bond with their team members. Hence we help corporate’s
• Enhance Team Bonding
• Build confidence
• Motivate employees
• Offer a Fun way to fitness
• Release stress
• Discover hidden talent
We do all of the above by offering our special workshops of
• Mindset change and goal setting through dance
• Staff induction through dance
• Team building through dance
• Wellness through dance
Companies we have worked with include Emirates, Mashreq Bank, RAK Bank, Samsung, Petrofac, Petrochem, Estee Lauder, DP World and many more.
